The much hated utility Irish Water is soon set to disappear and everyone couldn’t be happier, well almost everyone, accept businessman Denis O’Brien who claims the government made a huge mistake to suspend the charges until a commission examines the issue.
Mr O’Brien’s comments which will surely receive a barrage of criticism from the public, come after Fine Gael and Fianna FĆ”il, agreed to suspend the charges for nine months last week. Mr O’Brien told Bloomberg he believes the situation āhasnāt worked out as well as it shouldā. āI think the government were wrong to back down on the water, Irish Water.”
Mr OāBrien further explained that Irish Water was āthe right thingā for the country, because the water supply infrastructure as it stands is ‘Victorian’.
He went onto say: “So, thatās kicked in the air, and down the field, whereas it should have actually stayed. And the investment, you know thereās an investment programme of between three and four billion [euro] that was supposed to go into that. That now is under question.”
āI really donāt care whoās in power, but I think there needs to be stability in Ireland,ā he added.
