Disgraceful: Homeless man believed to be a French national dies after being assaulted in Cork City

A homeless man in Cork has tragically died from his injuries he sustained in a disgraceful assault which occurred in the City last Thursday.

Gardai say the man who has not been named although believed to be a French was assaulted on Lower Oliver Plunkett Street last Thursday at approximately 2pm.  The man was treated for his injuries at the scene but was later taken to Mercy University Hospital in Cork.

However the man sadly passed away from his injuries on Monday evening. It is understood the man’s family had traveled to Cork recently to be at his bedside. Gardai aslso say a post-mortem has taken place and they are currently waiting for the the results to determine cause of death.

They are also appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward and contact them.
