Doctors caring for Irishman Sean Cox say they will attempt to take him out of an induced coma on Monday.

According to The Irish Mirror newspaper, doctors treating Mr Cox 53, who was the victim of an unprovoked attack outside Anfield Stadium, will attempt to wake him up from his medically induced coma on Monday.

Mr Cox from Dunboyne Co Meath, is currently in critical condition in Walton Hospital Merseyside, after he sustained a severe bleed to his brain following the brutal attack.

It is believed that Mr Cox was brutally attacked with a belt by two Roma fans moments before Liverpool’s Champions League semi final encounter with the Italian giants.

The two men who have since been arrested and charged have already appeared before Liverpool’s Crown Court.

Both men who have been refused bail, are due to appear before the court again on May 24th.
