An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has released his 2014 Christmas message. The message focused on families who are apart for Christmas.

He tells the people of this country that the government is working “day and night” to strengthen the economy so emigrants can come home.

He said: “I know many of you will be catching up with sons and daughters , brothers and sisters, through Facebook and Skype. For families at Christmas, Facetime – good as it is – is no substitute for face-to-face.”

He recognised it has been a difficult year for people and wished “brighter days” for Irish people in the year ahead.

He said Christmas was a time to be thankful for things like our health, happiness and “people who travel the journey of life with us and with their help and kindness make life worth living”.

He concluded by saying: “I wish the special blessings of Christmas to you and to all those you love.”
