Fighting the stereotype: Brave mum who was criticised for dressing her Down Syndrome son in floral onesie puts online trolls in their place after he was made the face of top Australian baby clothing brand

A brave and determined mum has fought back against online trolls who despicably criticised her young son who has down syndrome for being dressed in a floral onesie.

The courageous mother named Kat Abianac, from Brisbane, has bravely put those who disgracefully made hurtful comments about her son in their place by writing a scathing blog post slamming those involved. The rightfully angry and upset mum received horrific criticism last year after she posted an adorable photograph of her two-year-old son in his new outfit on a group page on Facebook.

The lovely snap of Parker, who has Down’s Syndrome, sitting in a floral onesie in a shopping trolley got extremely harsh criticism because many trolls said it was wrong because the outfit was meant for a girl. However the angry mum fought back against her harsh critics by writing a touching blog post explaining why she decided to dress her son in the outfit.

An emotional Kat explained: “My son has Down syndrome. Bet the comment writers didn’t notice that, because his face was covered by a glorious lavender felt hat. “He is going to grow up needing to jump hurdles of outdated stereotypes. This issue is a mere drop in the bucket of assumptions I already fight every day, and try to raise awareness around. “I truly don’t give a s**t if he grows up and decides he likes pink Ralph Lauren shirts, or pyjamas in a startling shade of fuschia.”

The inspirational and heartfelt post prompted Kat’s friends to encourage her to enter little Parker, who is now aged three, into a competition to be the face of Australian clothing brand Bonds for the 18months-3 years category, which he subsequently won. The brave Mum has since spoken about her sons success, saying: “I entered Parker in the competition in his favourite floral onesie. He’d copped some grief online from some nasty mums for wearing it. “Of course I thought it would be hilarious if he won the competition wearing it. I didn’t think he actually WOULD win! “No online drama could take away the pride our whole family has in Parker winning the Baby Bonds competition. We’re so thrilled to take him on his first airplane for his interstate photo shoot.”

The happy mum also revealed that her son will begin his first photo-shoot this week and will have many more as his new contract will make him the face of the brand for the next 12 months at least.
