Figures released by St. Vincent de Paul reflect the true face of Ireland, as 780,000 people live in poverty

Figures just released by St. Vincent de Paul show that just over 780,000 people live in poverty here in Ireland, despite the country being categorised as fifth wealthiest in the world.

The figure equates to about 16% of the population.

According to the organization, 70,000 more children are living in dire poverty than ten years ago.

The Government meanwhile continues to handsomely reward its own ineptitude, as it recently emerged that former Taoiseach Enda Kenny is to receive a lump sum of €378,000 for his retirement and an annual pension of €126,000.
