Garda Commissioner defends officers presence at home evictions – saying they would step in if violence occurred

The Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has defended his officers over their presence at home evictions.

According to Shannonside.ie, Mr Harris defended his officers after the Gardai were heavily criticised for their handling of an eviction at a farm in Strokestown, Co. Roscommon.

The Garda Commissioner said that his officers would not stand by and watch as a crime occurred and they would always step in if violence were to occur.

Mr Harris’s comments come after a number of people were injured and a dog was subsequently euthanized following an incident at the farmhouse 9n Sunday morning.
