There was a gunpoint robbery in Little Island, Cork this morning. Gardai have appealed for witnesses.

A male carrying what is believed to be a sawn off shotgun entered the post office with his face covered at approximately 10:30am. He demanded cash from a post office employee before making his get away in a green ford focus with a small amount of cash. The abandoned car was found a short time later in Glanmire.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact Mayfield garda station on 021 4558510. Today’s incident is similar to an armed raid at an Applegreen service station in Glanmire on April 18 in which the perpetrator entered the service station, demanded cash at gunpoint, exited in a getaway vehicle which was abandoned shortly after the incident.

Gardaí are investigating whether there could be any link between the two cases. They are examining CCTV footage from the area.
