Heart of gold: Mrs Browns Boys star Danny O’Carroll reveals he is hosting charity fundraiser for the family who lost five relatives in the Buncrana tragedy

One of the main stars of Mrs Browns boys has revealed recently that he has invited celebrities from the worlds of sport and showbiz to take part in two fundraising events to help the family who lost five relatives in the Buncrana tragedy recently.

The star of the popular BBC sitcom Danny O’Carroll, who plays Buster, has announced that a celebrity golf classic and a separate gala dinner will be held in Co Donegal next month. It is understood the money raised from both events be split between two parties which include Louise James, who tragically lost her partner Sean, two sons Evan and Mark, mother Ruth and sister Jodi-Lee in the drownings, along with the suicide prevention charity Pieta House.

The Dublin native Danny, who currently lives in Co Donegal, revealed that he already been organising the charity gala, before he saw the Buncrana tragedy unfold on TV last month. The TV star told reporters: “There have been so many suicides in Donegal that I wanted to help the charity Pieta House set up in Letterkenny.” “I was working on the gala dinner where celebrities will be waiters for the night at the Shandon Hotel and Spa in Dunfanaghy.

“Then this awful accident happened in Buncrana. I was watching it on the TV news in Australia and I was devastated. “I wanted to do something for Louise and her baby Rioghnach-Ann and so we are also now doing a celebrity golf event on the same day, on May 27. I just don’t know how she (Louise) is coping. I’m thinking of my own family, my wife and my two children. “They are two separate causes and two great causes.”.

The star who is no stranger to organising charity events went onto say: “I haven’t spoken with Louise yet,” said Danny.“But I have spoken to her friends and she’s delighted that we are doing this. “That poor woman is going through hell. Money is not going to help that but if we can raise something for her and her baby that they can turn to in the years ahead when everyone else has forgotten about what happened then it is a worthwhile doing this.”

Danny then added: “I’m working my way through my contact list at the minute and I can promise a top line-up of celebrity guests for the golf classic and the gala dinner. “It’s going to be a fantastic fun day with two worthwhile causes benefitting.”

A four-ball for the golf at the famous Rosapenna Links course in Downings will cost €500.A table for ten at the gala dinner at the Shandon Hotel in Dunfanaghy later that night will cost €750 with all proceeds going to Pieta House and Louise James.·
