The ISIS-affiliated cell that carried out the June 3 atrocity in London Bridge had reportedly scouted out possible targets for a terrorist attack in Ireland.
According to the Sunday Independent, two of the operatives involved in the London incident, Khuram Shazad Butt and Rachid Redouane, had identified a number of possible locations across the country.
The two, now deceased after being shot dead by police in London, eventually decided that Ireland would be better used as a ‘logistics’ base for their operations.
Ireland has long been seen as an easy point of entry for terrorists into the UK, and as such, the country remains as a ‘security concern’ for overseas agencies.
