There was a showdown on last night’s Pat Kenny Show on TV3.
Journalist Ian O’Doherty confronted a man simply referred to as “Phil” from the group “Predator Exposure”.
The group are effectively a vigilante-sort of group who “out” either would be or actual child abusers.
“Phil” took great exception at the term vigilante and he claims that he and his team are merely trying to defend children in his area and that the government aren’t doing enough.
Doherty hit back by claiming that society can have only one police force and then basically said that no other entity has any superior moral justice than anyone else.
It’s a very contentious topic because on one hand the likes of “Predator Exposure” alerts people to would be creeps living near them, but then on the other what happens, as pointed out, if they get it wrong and someone’s life is ruined forever by a mistake made by one of these groups.
Mr Doherty appeared quite calm throughout the segment while “Phil” appeared much more agitated at various times.
