A parole board in New York have once again denied John Lennon’s killer Mark Chapman an early release from prison.

According to Sky News, Chapman, 63, who infamously shot the former Beatles singer four times outside his home in New York in 1980, had his latest request denied on the grounds that he still poses a threat to society.

The convicted murderer who has applied for parole for the tenth time, will now not be eligible for another hearing until 2020.

In a statement denying Chapman’s request, the Department of Corrections New York state Parole Board said: “We would be incompatible with the welfare and safety of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime as to undermine respect for the law”.

They added:”Your criminal history report reflects that this is your only crime of record.

“However, that does not mitigate your actions.”

The news of Chapman’s latest parole denial comes after Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono previously stated that she feared for her children’s safety if the convicted killer was released.
