Jonathan Demme, Oscar-winner director of classics such as Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia, has sadly passed away aged 73.
Demme had a long and somewhat uneven career in Hollywood.
He garnered great acclaim with films like Melvin and Howard, Married to the Mob, Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, and the documentary Stop Making Sense. However, he also had a series of box-office flops like the big-budget remake of The Manchurian Candidate and Beloved.
Demme was presented with the National Board of Review’s Billy Wilder Award in 2006.
The director passed away due to complications deriving from cancer and heart disease.
