Mohamed Morei remanded to Central Mental Hospital after being found not guilty of murdering Yosuke Sasaki by reason of insanity

It’s a frightening day for the wee county on the 3rd of January 2018 when no one could reason why a quiet Japanese person working in National Pen in Dundalk was brutally killed in a knife attack on the Avenue Road in Dundalk.

Anyone who knows the area knows how busy this particular road is at any given time of the day or night but tragically no one could intervene and help 24-yr-old Yosuke Sasaki in his hour of need.

Asylum seeker 21-yr-old Mohamed Morei had arrested in connection with the stabbing and had claimed that he was a member of ISIS. An Gardai believe this not to be true however after an extensive investigation of Morei’s past.

Morei has been found not guilty by reason of insanity to murdering Mr Sasaki and the same verdict for two other victims on the same day in Dundalk.

It’s understood that Morei will be back in the Central Criminal Court to assess where his treatment will be carried out.

RTE report that the Jury expressed their sympathies with Mr Sasaki’s family.
