A cruel mother will spend the rest of her life behind bars after she subjected her eight year old son to a catalogue of violent and disturbing abuse.
The woman 34 year old Pearl Fernández, was was sentenced to death at an LA court Thursday for torturing and killing her eight year old son Gabriel Fernandez.
According to The LA Times, Ms Fernández and her boyfriend Isauro Aguirre, subjected the innocent child to horrific abuse because they feared he was gay.
The paper states the sick couple tortured the young boy for almost eight months before he died from extensive injuries which included a cracked skull, three broken ribs and BB pellets embedded in his lung.
It is also believed that the sick couple repeatedly abused little Gabriel by dousing him with pepper spray, shooting his genitals with a BB gun and forcing him to eat cat faeces and his own vomit.
The sick couple also gagged the boy with socks before locking him in a closet in order to muffle his screams.
Although little Gabriel was previously sent to live with residents in 2005, he was taken back into his mother’s care in 2012 before his tragic death in 2013.
Despite a number of warning signs before his death little Gabriel remained under his mother’s care even though a teacher became concerned for his well being.
It is alleged the little boy demonstrated how to sniff a line of cocaine before his teacher who also noticed that he had been beaten with a belt.
The tragic case also heard of how two social workers who have since been fired, failed to rescue little Gabriel after a suicide note was found shortly before his death.
According to the paper social services dismissed the note as a cry for help as its contents did not issue any details in regards to Gabriel’s plans on how he would end his life.
Both Ms Fernández and Aguirre have been given the death penalty and will spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
