Nursing Homes Could Be Forced To Close Their Doors

th (5)The doors of 21 nursing homes throughout the country could possibly be closing their doors as they do not meet the national standards.

According to the Sunday Business Post, these nursing homes are situated nationwide, with six of them in Cork, two in Dublin, Tipperary, Louth, Cavan and Clare and one closure in Waterford, Wexford, Monaghan, Leitrim and Kerry.

Out of all 21 homes listed, not one was earmarked for funding from the HSE’s service plan for 2015.

Under HIQA regulations, the nursing homes have until July to meet set standards or else they face sanctions and possibly the closures of homes, leaving hundreds of elders with nowhere to go.

Sanctions which the homes may face include forcing the homes to reduce the number of residents or high dependency patients. They could also be prevented from admitting anymore residents.
