Recall alert: LIDL recall faulty smoke detectors in the interest of safety after alarm sound problem is discovered

One of the country’s biggest supermarket chains LIDL have issued a statement to the public urging them to return faulty smoke detectors over fire safety fears.

The urgent recall comes after it was discovered that the Unielektra smoke detectors which were sold between 2016 and 2017 have a sound problem which is deemed below regulatory standards.

In the statement LIDL say the smoke alarms are not fit for purpose after significant testing found that the alarm fitted does not produce a loud enough sound during an emergency situation.

The supermarket chain say all smoke detectors should be returned in the interest of safety as there prolonged use could potentially result in a homeowner being unware of a major fire emergency in their home.

LIDL say anyone who may have bought the Unielektra smoke detector over the past two years are entitled to a full refund once they present it at one of their stores .
