Red and Orange status weather alerts remain in place this morning as further snowfall combined with low temperatures are expected

Motorists and those traveling out and about this morning have been urged to proceed with caution as icy, freezing and wintry conditions are expected.

According to Met Eireann a red status weather warning remains in place for counties Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Wexford and Wicklow until 9am.

Meanwhile an orange status warning has been issued for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Westmeath, Galway, Cavan, Monaghan and Offaly along with the vast majority of Munster.

The National Forecaster say the warnings will remain in place as further snowfall is expected throughout the morning which will lead to a significant accumulation in many areas.

However conditions are set to change later in the day as snow showers will change to sleet and rain, although it will be a bitterly cold day as temperatures will barely remain above 0c.
