Rose Guard: Gardai confirm security efforts will be stepped up at this year’s Rose of Tralee festival in order to prevent a potential terrorist incident

Gardai have confirmed that security efforts will be stepped up at this year’s Rose of Tralee festival in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks to hit Manchester and London.

The annual festival which is home to thousands of tourists will see extra Gardai and security forces deployed in the South West region in order to prevent a potential terrorist incident.

According to the Irish Daily Star, Gardai are determined to step their efforts at all major events throughout the country including the Rose of Tralee festival and the All Ireland football and hurling finals.

It is believed the Gardai will provide a high number of members of the Regional Support Unit at the event, which take places from August 16 to 22.

Meanwhile organisers have said they are in “regular contact with the various agencies tasked with the job of making sure everyone is safe”.

They added: “Every effort will be made, as it is every year, to ensure the safety of the visiting public.”
