Running for a cause: Thousands of volunteers hit the streets running in the hope of raising €600,000 for Special Olympics Ireland

Thousands of volunteers have hit the streets running today all in aid of rising much funds for Special Olympics Ireland.

The fundraising day which was organised by Special Olympics ambassador and Irish rugby captain Rory Best, will see thousands of willing volunteers run for donations. Best told reporters: “I’ve been involved in sports probably most of my life, and I know how important and key sport is to building a team ethos and getting involved and really improving your confidence.”

The Irish rugby star also revealed that all proceeds will go directly to over 9,000 athletes, in 360 clubs across the entire island of Ireland. Special Olympics Ireland say they hope to raise €600,000 in just 24 hours. “I think for these guys to get the money to be able to do this and get it around Ireland is really important,” Best added.
