There is growing concerns for parents and students this morning as the first secondary school teachers strike is taking place today after further talks between the ASTI and the Department ended without an agreement yesterday.
It is understood that a total of 507 schools out of 735 nationwide will not open their doors this morning in a dispute over pay and conditions.
However the Department of Education has confirmed that all teachers taking to the picket lines this morning and next month will not receive any pay whilst they are out of action.
It is understood both the Department of Education and the ASTI will meet for further talks on Friday.
