The police commissioner of the Italian Island of Sicily was attacked by two migrants with razor blades as they were attempting to burgle his home, the Daily Mail reported.
The Sicilian police commissioner, Nuccio Garozzo, managed to apprehend one of the migrant burglars despite having been slashed with a razor. The man is an asylum seeker from Gambia who was permitted to stay in Italy for “humanitarian reasons”.
Now the country’s Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini, has said “We’re insane” in response to the attack, referring to Italy’s acceptance of migrants which is demanded by the EU according to the outspoken politician.
Mr Salvini, who also holds the post of Deputy Prime Minister has since condemned Brussels for trying to block Italy from sending migrants to Albania after the country offered to help share the burden of the migrant crisis, the UK Express reports.
The maverick leader has said that Italy will ignore the demands of the bloc and send migrants landing in Italy to the non-EU country.
