According latest figures released by the Department of Housing there are currently 4,000 children homeless across ireland.
The new figures which once again sets a new unwanted record, also shows that there currently 9,807 people living with home in February.
Data for the month of February revealed that a further 703 people entered into emergency accommodation, whilst the number of homeless children had risen by 488.
In what has been now reveled as the highest ever rate of homelessness in the history of the state, the Minister for Housing has said he is concerned by the increased rate of homeless families and described it as a worrying trend.
Although Mr Murphy stated that the current crisis is distressing, he did state that major resources and a huge amount of work is being put in to tackle the crisis on a daily basis.
The news which has once again angered homeless advocacy groups across the country, has led to many senior figures within the groups to criticise the Government’s handling of the situation which they say has completely spiraled out of control.
In a response to Mr Murphy’s comments, a number of senior figures have called for more action to be taken sooner rather than later as the current situation is becoming unabtainable.
