Gardai units set up a number of checkpoints on the M1 this afternoon, as part of the ongoing Operation Thor.
Today’s efforts yielded the seizure of 11,000 illegal cigarettes and ten arrests.
One man was arrested in connection with the cigarette haul, while eight others were taken into custody due to a number of road traffic offences, including drink driving. A number of vehicles were also seized.
The checkpoints were established with the aim of targeting criminals using the motorway network, as well as stalling the sale of stolen goods at Christmas markets.
