Snow has landed over many parts of Ireland today with Met Éireann forecasting that it will become even more widespread this evening.

Met Éireann said: “Wintry showers extending to all areas, increasingly falling as snow to lower levels as the day goes on. Cold. Temperatures 3 to 5 Celcius.”

North Connacht and Ulster are to be hit heaviest with between 2-5cm of snowfall expected.
Weather alerts remain in place as snow showers and brisk winds will be accompanied by some thunderstorms.

Road warnings have been issued due to severe ice patches forming on many untreated roads.
Lowest temperatures tonight will reach 1C to -2C with strong gusterly winds.
