There could be bad news for over half a million homeowners in the near future as Irish Water plan to charge for excessive usage.
Under the latest radical proposals by the state utility homeowners who use over 123 litres per day could still face a substantial bill, after the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney agreed that anything below the above amount would be deemed as fair usage.
However the latest proposal has drawn criticism from opposition TDs who say the new system would be unfair particularly to those with larger families.
Many opposition TDs also say if the scheme was implemented the vast majority of households across the country would be unfairly charged for what many would still consider standard usage.
