The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has issued a stark warning to the country’s leading banks in relation to the persistent overcharging of customers in recent months.
Mr Varadkar who was speaking about the issue on Wednesday said the problem is ‘scandalous’ and that he nor the Department of Finance will tolerate the current issue which has reportedly affected over 30,000 borrowers and also left many people losing their homes.
In a scathing attack on the nations biggest money lenders the Taoiseach revealed that the Government are seriously considering raising taxes for lenders unless the issue is resolved quickly.
Mr Varadkar’s comments come after an Oireachtas Committee recently found that over 30,000 borrowers were wrongfully over charged or had the terms of their loan/mortgage agreements changed without any knowledge.
