A very large number of Irish nurses have held a protest rally in Sydney, Australia to stand united with their fellow nurses in Ireland.

The “give us a reason to go home” demonstration was held at the steps of Sydney Opera House.

It follows announcements in early January that nurses belonging to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation are to hold a number of 24-hour strikes in an escalation of their pay dispute with the first taking place on January 30th.

The next strikes are planned for February 5th, 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th.

The Toaiseach Leo Varadkar is said to be angered by the fact the nurses are planning on striking on a weekday.
