Supermarket chain Lidl recalls own brand peanuts as packaging fails to tell customers they contain possible allergens

One of the country’s biggest supermarket chains Lidl has confirmed that they have recalled its own brand of peanuts because the packaging fails to tell customers they contain possible allergens.

It is understood customers are being advised to return packets of Alesto Honey Peanuts because the ingredients are not printed in English. Lidl say any customer who purchased a 200g packet of Alesto Honey Peanuts (best before date: 02/2017) are entitled to a full refund if they return them to the store.

The company issued the following statement: ā€œLidl Ireland is withdrawing the above batch of Alesto Cacahuetes/Amendoim, as the label and ingredients list are not in English,ā€ the company said in a statement.

ā€œThe product contains peanuts and may also contain other nuts. This batch may be a risk to consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanut or its constituents.ā€
