Trump: “Ireland deserves a lot of credit as they did an amazing job handling the economic downturn”




The US President Donald Trump has heaped praise on the Irish Government for its handling of business during the economic downturn.

President Trump who was speaking during an interview with The Economist claimed that the Irish Government did a remarkable job in turning the economy around by deciding not to raise corporate taxes a number of years ago.

Speaking about his plans for the American economy President Trump said that Ireland’s model was a prime example of good business when it came to persuading high profile corporations to stay in the economy even though it was rapidly declining.

During the extensive interview the US President was asked what would be his approach when it comes to persuading corporate companies to return to the US.

President Trump replied by saying that he was well aware that a lot of companies had been forced out of the US because of high taxes, and said that there are some that would return to the US if the environment was made more business-friendly.

President Trump then used Ireland’s recent taxation module as an prime example of what a country could achieve it they offer the right incentive.

The US leader said: “You look at Ireland. I own great property in Ireland that I bought during the downturn. And I give the Irish a lot, a lot of credit.”

“They never raised their taxes. You know you would have thought when they were going through that really… they would’ve double and tripled their taxes. They never raised it a penny.”

“And they got through it and they are thriving now. Ireland’s done an amazing job. A lot of companies have moved to Ireland and they like it.”

Trump also claimed that he was highly confident that more and more major corporations would return to the US once regulatory barriers were removed and the corporate tax rate would be significantly lowered.
