Two women who are believed to have been nuns, have died last night after drowning at Inch Beach in Co Kerry.
It is believed that a lifeguard who was about to go off duty spotted the elderly women who are understood to have been nuns in their 60s according locals, in difficulties at approximately 7pm, a rescue operation was immediately put in motion.
Two ambulance units were summoned, as well as a Coast Guard helicopter, which airlifted the women in serious condition to Kerry General Hospital, in Tralee. But unfortunately just after 10.30pm last night, gardai confirmed the news that the two women had been declared dead.
Inch, is a known to be a popular tourist destination, although the beach was believed to have been quiet at the time of the incident. It is thought the women may have been on holidays.
