Two of President Donald Trump’s top aides are indicted in relation to US-Russia meetings

Two of Donald Trump’s top aides are indicted on multiple counts related to US-Russia meetings.

Adding fuel to the political fire, George Papadopolous, former foreign policy adviser, has now pleaded guilty to perjury after being found out to have lied to FBI investigators.

Papadopolous reportedly lied about the extent of contacts he had had with Russian individuals with close ties to the Russian government.

Separately, Paul Manafort, former campaign manager for Donald Trump, and Rick Gates, a business associate of Manafort’s, have been indicted on multiple counts that include money laundering, tax evasion, and many more. Both men, who have now been placed under house arrest and face up to 12 years in prison in convicted of these charges, have pleaded not guilty.

These outcomes are the result of an special investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into the extent of Russian meddling in the last US election, and signify a major challenge for the Administration.
