Varadkar: “I have no intention of taking Fine Gael leadership role – as Mr Kenny is doing a phenomenal job”

The Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar has said that the current Taoiseach Enda Kenny is doing a phenomenal job as leader of the current Government

Mr Varadkar’s words of praise come after a week of uncertainty surrounding Mr Kenny’s leadership of the Fine Gael party, however Mr Varadkar has said he has no intention of taking the leadership role and will only do so when Mr Kenny decides the time is right to leave.

Minister Varadkar told reporters: “The time of his departure is really a matter for him, and I’ve always been very clear about that.”

“He has my full support, I think he’s doing a phenomenal job as Taoiseach, and has really helped this Coalition to gel to get our first Budget through, and will lead us into a very important period ahead where there are enormous challenges to answer, such as Brexit and … around industrial action and public-sector pay.”
