Vintners Association remain hopeful of pubs being allowed to open on Good Friday

Groups representing the vintners association claim that they have held “very positive” talks with the Justice Minister recently regarding the issue of opening pubs and off-licence’s  on Good Friday.

It is understood that two groups representing the Licensed Vintners Association and the Vintners Federation of Ireland held talks with Frances Fitzgerald were they made their claims for the sale of alcohol on Good Friday, they claim that tourists are “baffled and disappointed” to find Ireland’s pubs are closed on Good Friday.

Mr Donal O’Keefe of the Licensed Vintners Association said : “We had a positive meeting,”  “She is to consider the matter with officials and will be making a decision in the next week or two, and we’re hopeful that she will be able to permit Good Friday trading.

“He went onto say: We believe it can be done in time for Easter 2015 and we’re hopeful that the Minister will see her way through to doing that.”
