Water restrictions in place for parts of the country as heatwave threatens drought

There are concerns that the warm weather and increased water usage will bring on drought like conditions.

Now local authorities are rolling out water restrictions as temperatures sored to 32C in some areas today. The hottest temperatures are expected in inland areas, currently with over 10,000 people mostly in Kilkenny and Tipperary reportedly being affected by water restriction measures.

Other counties such as Limerick, Donegal and West Meath may also see water restrictions and the daily water usage in Dublin is significantly over capacity.

The demand has spiked around the country with the spike in temperatures and Met Eireann is warning that the country is in a ā€œheatwave situationā€.

Meanwhile Gorse fires have swept across parts of the Dublin-Wicklow mountains and people are being warned to keep electronic devices such as phones and charges out of the sun as they pose a fire hazard from overheating.
