Up to 100 of the world’s leading experts on the HIV/AIDS virus are reported to have been killed when Flight MH-17 was shot down over Ukrainian territory.

This personnel were en route to the Aids 2014 conference, due to be held in Melbourne. It has been reported that about one hundred scheduled attendees were indeed booked on the doomed flight. The aircraft was allegedly brought down by a surface-to-air-missile. There were no survivors among the 298 passengers and crew on board.

If confirmed, the loss of such knowledge and expertise might prove a devastating blow to the ongoing pursuit for a cure of this terrible disease.
