Young baby has lucky escape after a brick is thrown through a window and lands in cot

There was a lucky escape for a young infant in Co Antrim on Tuesday night after a brick was hurled through a window and landed in its cot.

The horrifying incident which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning has now led to a police investigation being launched.

The PSNI say the incident which happened in the Tarragon Park area of Antrim, could have been more fatal only for the fact that the young baby was not in its cot at the time but instead the young tot was with its parents.

Speaking about the appalling incident which is being treated as a hate crime, PSNI Sergeant John Hamilton said: “At 2:20am (yesterday) two windows at the property, one at the front kitchen and one at an upstairs bedroom were smashed.”

“The piece of brick used to smash the upstairs window landed in a one-year-old baby’s cot. However, due to being sick the baby was lying with their parents at the time. These reckless actions could have caused serious injury had this not been the case.”

The PSNI say they are currently appealing witnesses who may have any information regarding the incident and they are urging them to contact Antrim police on the non-emergency number 101.
