After a birthday celebration, a guy committed a “breach of trust” by raping a friend; he was sentenced to six years in prison, reports Breaking News.
On June 6 and 7, 2022, the 39-year-old man—who will remain nameless to preserve the victim’s privacy—pleaded guilty to one count of rape.
When imposing the sentence on Monday, Ms. Justice Eileen Creedon stated that the victim had been used by the man when she was defenceless and asleep. She mentioned the “breach of trust” that had happened within their friendship as well, reports Breaking News.
Statement on the impact of victims
Ms. Justice Creedon remarked that the victim had experienced a “profound negative impact” from the occurrence, citing the victim impact statement.
She said the girl had endured “stigma” and “blame” from her society and was left feeling alone “far from home”.
The judge said while the probation report showed that the male didn’t take responsibility, a complete apology was given in court and he has admitted the victim could not provide permission, reports Breaking News.
