22-yr-old man pleads guilty to throwing bottle and intimidating Michael Healy-Rae outside Leinster House

At a “aggressive” gathering outside government offices, a protester blocked and threw a bottle at Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae, threatening him. The defendant has entered a guilty plea, reports RTE.

After the summer break, the Dáil reconvened on September 20 and about 200 people staged a demonstration outside Leinster House.

It resulted in several arrests, and while he and an intern from his office tried to leave the scene, the independent TD denounced the actions of certain demonstrators, reports RTE.

Judge Paula Murphy welcomed 22-year-old Dean Hickson, of Griffith Parade, Finglas East, Dublin, to Dublin District Court.

On September 20, he was charged with intimidating Michael Healy-Rae at Kildare Street, Dublin 2.

Donal Quigley, his attorney, acknowledged his guilty plea and expressed his desire to extend his apology to the politician, reports RTE.

Hickson was remanded on continuous bail pending punishment in order to produce a victim impact statement. Hickson has no past criminal convictions.

In February, gardaí charged him after an inquiry.

The Pearse Street Garda The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) gave Chloe Rochfort instructions to prosecute Hickson under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, reports RTE.
