Bad news on the jobs front this morning, as 240 positions will be lost after the phased closure of a pharmaceutical plant in Co Clare.
The Roche plant, based in Clarecastle, will be phased out after a worldwide review by the parent company. Despite ongoing efforts to sell the plant, no deal was ever reached.
The plant, which was first established as Syntex Ireland back in 1994, will continue operations until at least 2019, and the company will now enter into formal consultation with employees and their representatives to discuss redundancy terms.
