Commuters were left frustrated this afternoon after DART services were delayed by up to an hour and a half. The delay was caused by the mechanical failure of a Santa Steam Train.
The festive train was carrying 200 passengers when it broke down. The train stalled between Greystones and Bray. The steam then then stopped for 90 minutes at Dalkey. This caused severe delays to southbound DART and train services. There were also delays to northbound services.
Now Santa, about this steam train of yours… Apologies for disruption, DART services on move and delays easing pic.twitter.com/U8xB55WbsP

The steam train had to continue its journey using diesel. Irish Rail kept passengers updated via their Twitter page @IrishRail. Dublin Bus honoured tickets while the incident was being resolved.
