4 Jobs to Pursue if You Love Dogs

Dogs are fondly referred to as humanity’s best friend, and they can certainly offer close companionship and loyalty to their owners. A dog can bring you a lot of happiness and comfort, so it’s understandable why someone might want to welcome one into the family.

If you are a big dog lover, you might want to go one further and even make a career out of caring for these beautiful animals. If this sounds appealing to you, why not think about the following roles as options for you?

  • Professional Dog Walker/Sitter

Dog walking or taking care of someone else’s dog for the day or weekend might sound like something you would do when you were a teenager looking to make some extra pocket money, but this can be a very great career for adults who want to work closely with dogs.

A lot of pet owners who work full-time might find that they need some additional help with getting their dog exercise during the day, and they are looking for a responsible and experienced individual that they can rely on to care for their dog.

This is also true for those who are going away on holiday and perhaps don’t have a relative or friend who can look after their dog while they’re away. A lot of dog owners prefer to avoid kennels if they can, and dog sitters can provide a more comfortable and calming alternative.

  • Veterinarian or Veterinary Nurse

Another option for a career for dog lovers is working as a vet or another role in a vet clinic, such as a veterinary nurse. This is certainly an interesting career, but it will require a degree and intensive training, so be prepared to dedicate your time to your studies if you want to work in this field.

You will likely get to meet a lot of dogs as part of your daily routine working as a vet or veterinary nurse, but you will also need to care for other animals too, so this might be better suited for individuals who love to be around all animals – not just dogs.

  • Dog Groomer

Dog groomers are in demand as this is an important part of caring for dogs, but it isn’t always easy to do this properly at home. In this role, you will be responsible for washing a dog’s fur, trimming it, clipping claws, and generally making them look clean, stylish and presentable.

It’s a great option for those who would also like to be self-employed, but you will need to make sure you have all the right equipment for the job, such as grooming accessories, bathing goodies, and larger gear like dog grooming tables. You can find the latter at christiesdirect.ie – as well as all kinds of kit you’ll need to work as a doggy groomer.

  • Dog Trainer

Training puppies or older dogs with behavioural issues can be tricky, and many dog owners do need the help of professional trainers. This role can be challenging at times, but if you have patience and are also interested in behaviours of dogs, this can be an exciting career that you might find very rewarding.

If you adore dogs and would love a career that allows you to work with them every day, consider the suggestions above and see which could be a great fit for you.
