60 jobs lost at a mushroom growing plant in Tipperary

The mushroom-growing Schiele and McDonald facility, located in Tipperary, closed today with the loss of 60 jobs.

And the owner is laying the blame squarely at Brexit, alleging that the weakening of the sterling has badly damaged its business, which is mosly focussed on the UK.

Tipperary town is quickly becoming an unemployment black spot. With a population of just over 5,000, 1,400 people are listed as unemployed.

Local councillors have called for ‘urgent action’ to reverse this trend.
