A 76-yr-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison for the sexual assault and rape of a teenage girl who was watching the children of a lady he was seeing more than thirty years earlier, reports RTE.
The Dublin man allegedly contacted the girl’s house in one rape episode under the guise of taking her for a job interview at a local newsagent. The court heard how he drove her to the Wicklow Mountains, where he sexually assaulted her.
According to what the court heard, the youngster was shouting and acting frenzied during the trip because she was terrified of what the man would do and thought he may kill her.
After the rape, he gave her a lollipops and a chocolate bar, reports RTE.
At the Central Criminal Court, the 76-year-old man entered a not guilty plea to allegations of rape and indecent abuse of a 15-year-old girl in Dublin between November 1988 and August 1989.
After an eight-day trial last month, a jury found him guilty on three counts of indecent assault and two counts of rape.
The man was married with kids and about 41 years old at the time. At the time, he was having an affair with a lady for whom the adolescent had been watching babies.
The now 51-year-old complainant was characterised by Mr. Justice Patrick McGrath, as “a brave woman who has not allowed these crimes to defeat her, but has determinedly brought up her children and put herself through college”, reports RTE.
