Like a modern day Hamelin, the Sourhill area of Ballymena has come under siege by an army of marauding rodents over recent months.
The problem has become so bad that the human population have been warned to be vigilant at all times and keep all the doors shut and secure while efforts to exterminate the vermin menace are underway.
Rats have been spotted roaming around freely, and some videos show the rodents hurriedly scurrying past dog walkers in the town.
There is a major eradication program ongoing, but residents feel that they are running out of time, and that the town may become overrun by the summertime unless the rat’s numbers are substantially decreased.
