Sad news is emerging from Tipperary tonight after it was announced that Tipperary Independent Candidate Marese Skehan has been found dead at her home in Thurles.

The lady’s untimely death means that the constituency’s election will not go ahead on Saturday as nominations must now re-open. It also means that the Dail may not go back on February 20th.

Tipperary TD Michael Lowry wrote the following tribute to Marese Skehan on Facebook:
“Deputy Michael Lowry has expressed his deep sadness at news of the sudden passing of Marese Skehan, of Cabra Road in Thurles.

Ms. Skehan was an Independent Candidate contesting the forthcoming General Election in the Tipperary Constituency and a prominent and much admired member of the local community.

Deputy Lowry said ‘I have known Marese for many years. She cared passionately about the plight of the underprivileged and disadvantaged and was always a great source of support and assistance to those in need. She will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.’

Deepest condolences to her family and many friends.”
