Coronavirus: Austria closes ALL schools and introduces travel entry ban for people from Italy

The Austrian government have confirmed that almost all of its schools will be closed up until Easter in an effort to halt the spread of the Coronavirus.

According to Reuters, the Alpine state has confirmed that secondary schools will close from next week and lessons will be provided by digital means.

Meanwhile primary schools will not officially close, but instead lessons will be stopped for the same period.

Austrian officials say although primary schools will be allowed to open for daycare purposes, the main advice is that parents should keep their children at home if possible.

The country which borders Italy one of the worst affected in Europe, has also introduced a travel ban for Italian visitors in wake of the recent rise in cases.

Austrian authorities say border checks will be carried out daily and visitors will only be allowed to enter the country if they can provide a medical certificate proving they are cleared to do so.

It has also emerged that a ban on gatherings for a 100 or more people has been introduced to halt the spread of the virus.
