Varadkar: The word lockdown is confusing and Ireland doesn’t need anymore confusion

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said that he is not and will not use the word ‘lockdown’ because he said that it creates confusion and that Ireland has enough confusion already.

The caretaker Taoiseach said that all non essential businesses were to close, including cinemas, hairdressers and retail shops – but there was an air of ambiguity from the announcement.

Varadkar was asked whether there would be a lockdown similar to what Boris Johnson announced for the UK last night but Varadkar said that he didn’t like the word ‘lockdown’ and that he wouldn’t be using that word in the weeks to come even if more measures are needed.
