A beauty pageant in Saudi Arabia has disqualified a dozen camels over the alleged use of Botox.
A veterinarian was caught performing plastic surgery on the camels a few days before the pageant, according to UAE’s āThe Nationalā while a clinic was found be surgically reducing the size of the animals’ ears to make them appear more ādelicateā.
āThey use Botox for the lips, the nose, the upper lips, the lower lips and even the jaw,” Ali Al Mazrouei, a regular attendee such festivals and the son of a prominent Emirati breeder, told the National.
āIt makes the head more inflated so when the camel comes it’s like, ‘Oh look at how big that head is. It has big lips, a big nose.ā
While these underhanded attempts at cheating have brought shame on this celebration of camels there is not only pride at stake.
ā¬43.3 million is awarded to winners of the camel contestants owners, with more than ā¬26 million in prizes for just for the beauty pageants.
