A touching ceremony was taking place in Glasnevin Cemetery today at the Memorial Wall to remember all those died in 1916, inclusive of all nationalities.
Gardai were forced to step in however when a number of thugs roared abuse and threw stones at old people standing in the crowd.
Smoke bombs were also thrown into the crowd where allegedly one old person was brought to hospital as a result of breathing difficulties.
A Union Jack was also lit but Gardai intervened in time and managed to put the blaze out and arrest one of the protesters.
Dignitaries marking the event included those from the Church, members of the Defense Forces, politicians, and British diplomats.
One woman said coming out of the cemetery after the event:
“It’s a disgrace, we’ve moved on from the past and the Irish and English are good neighbours at this stage, I could hardly believe me eyes when they started throwing smoke bombs at the old people.”
